Comprised of global industry and functional experts, World Gold Council’s management team focuses on driving forward initiatives to underscore and advance gold’s significant role in meeting the diverse needs of society. We support our Members in many of their endeavours to ensure modern gold mining is demonstrating their commitment to responsible and sustainable business practices, and high standards of environmental, social and governance performance. We also support their place in a vibrant and sustainable gold supply chain by stimulating demand in new and existing markets through research, insight and partnerships with leaders in investment, jewellery, industry and academia. We work across the entire supply chain, from sustainable and responsible gold mining through to the consumer marketplace.

What We do

We develop standards, expand access to gold, and tackle barriers to adoption to stimulate demand and support a vibrant and sustainable future for the gold market. From where we operate in Beijing, London, Mumbai, New York, Shanghai, Singapore, North and South America, we deliver positive impact worldwide. insight and partnerships with leaders in investment, jewellery, industry and academia. We work across the entire supply chain, from sustainable and responsible gold mining through to the consumer marketplace.

Governance

The Administration Committee’s role is to advise the Board on business and financial plans developed by World Gold Council’s management as well as setting and assessing performance objectives. The committee is led by the Chair of the World Gold Council and includes the Vice Chair of World Gold Council and Chairs of the Audit, Compensation and Governance & Nomination Committees.

Responsible Gold Mining Principles

The Responsible Gold Mining Principles (RGMPs), launched in September 2019, are a framework that set out clear expectations for consumers, investors and the downstream gold supply chain as to what constitutes responsible gold mining.

Guidance Note on Expenditure Definitions

This Guidance Note was issued as part of the World Gold Council’s work to develop common approaches which the gold mining industry can use as part of their overall reporting on the contribution made to sustainable economic development

Gold and Climate Change

The World Gold Council and its members recognise that climate change imposes very substantial risks to the global economy and socio-economic development. Policy makers, industry participants, investors, asset owners, and wider society are now eager for a greater understanding of these risks and their potential consequences, and how they might be mitigated or managed in future.
